£42m note revealed at Leeds United as new sub-plot added to Premier League survival battle
Leeds United players will earn a bonus of £42million between them if they avoid relegation from the Premier League, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (7 May, page 116) that while new manager Sam Allardyce will earn a £2.5million payout if he keeps the Whites up, the players will be handed a huge sum to share among them.
It is understood that “a note in their recently published accounts discloses” the £42million bonus, while the bonus last season was £48.2million when they avoided the drop on the final day of the campaign with a win at Brentford.

A lot at stake
If the Leeds players don’t have their heart in it for the club then surely they’ll be motivated to win that money?
It remains to be seen how much each player will get but the fee is bound to be divided up based on how many appearances have been made.
For players like Illan Meslier, Brenden Aaronson, Jack Harrison, Robin Koch and Marc Roca, that could be a lot of money as they have all played the most for Lereds this season.

But out of them, only Harrison really deserves a large payout because none of the others have done enough to see Leeds move out of the position they’re in.
Allardyce has dropped Meslier from his starting line-up with Joel Robles replacing him at Manchester City on Saturday and, presumably, for the rest of the season too.
But he’s currently in line for what could be the biggest slice of the pie due to his appearances made this season surpassing that of everyone else.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has made a prediction for Victor Orta’s replacement at Elland Road with the 49ers due for a takeover.
