£3m update emerges as Leeds United set to sign Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu

Leeds United will be paying £3million extra to sign Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu if the add-ons are met, according to Nizaar Kinsella.

The Evening Standard journalist claims [17 July] that the total transfer fee could now go up to £10million for the 22-year-old.

He will be the next signing through the door for the Whites after Josh McDonald and Lewis Pirie have already been confirmed as new additions this summer.

Kinsella wrote on Twitter, “Leeds United have agreed a £7million + £3m in add-ons fee with Chelsea for Ethan Ampadu after the exclusive news earlier today.”

Good deal

Leeds are paying a very decent amount for someone who’s likely to be at the club for a long time.

At 22, he’s far from the finished product and under the right manager, can only get better and take his game and the club to the next level.

He’s a Wales international and his leadership skills mean that he could one day don the captain’s armband too for the Whites.

The add-ons are likely to be contingent on the number of appearances for the club and also on whether or not they secure promotion in the next three years.

This will benefit Leeds as they’ll be back in the Premier League and will not mind paying it as they’ll already have a huge windfall coming in by returning to the top flight.

Everything does appear to be in place so it’s not long before an official announcement should be made for the Welshman.

In other Leeds United news, the club have been handed a boost to sign a Manchester United player this summer with Erik ten Hag likely to sanction his exit.
