23y/o suggests he’s heading back to Leeds despite permanent Elland Rd exit being an option

Leeds United fans thought they might have seen the last of Conor Shaughnessy in January when he joined Burton Albion on a loan-to-buy basis.

Shaugnessy, 23, joined the Brewers for the second half of the League One season after spending the first half of the campaign impressing in League Two with Mansfield.

After his loan move to Burton was rubber-stamped, LeedsLive reported that Shaugnessy’s loan agreement included the option for the Staffordshire club to make the switch permanent at the end of the season.

Shaughnessy only made eight appearances for Burton before the coronavirus pandemic led to the League One season being curtailed early and now, the Irish defender’s latest Instagram post suggests that he is returning to Leeds and won’t be signing for the Brewers permanently.

He said: “Strange way to end the season, but thank you to everyone at Burton Albion for the few months there. Enjoyed every minute!”

Nothing about Shaughnessy’s post suggests that he’s going to end up staying at the Pirelli Stadium and with him having another year left on his contract at Leeds, it seems that he will be back at Thorp Arch soon enough.

Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely to use Shaugnessy if he was able to in the coming weeks as Championship clubs prepare to resume their season next weekend.

He’s only made 15 senior appearances for the Whites and he might be someone Victor Orta aims to offload based on the fact Burton had the chance to sign him if they wished.

In other Leeds United news, this star player could end up jetting out of the UK based on a recent development.
