£17.2m news emerges in PSG bid to sign Leeds United loanee Diego Llorente in January transfer window

French giants PSG have £17.2million to spend on a new defender this month, with Leeds United ace Diego Llorente of interest, according to Fabrice Hawkins.

The RMC Sport journalist reported via his official X account (10 January) that Llorente is one of several targets for the Ligue 1 outfit this month.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo are also on PSG’s list, in addition to the 30-year-old Spaniard.

Llorente is currently on loan with Serie A side AS Roma, where he has been a key figure, starting 16 of the club’s 19 league matches so far this season.

No-brainer

If that kind of money arrives for Llorente, then Leeds supporters and those higher up at the club will surely be overjoyed.

With the centre-back currently out on loan, there would be some finer details to iron out, but the move would make sense from the Whites’ point of view.

Llorente is 30 and has spent the last year out on loan in Italy. If Daniel Farke could scoop up anything close to PSG’s £17.2million budget for the defender, that money could be reinvested into the squad, with a fee like that sure to go a long way for a club in the Championship fighting for promotion to the Premier League.

Llorente joined the West Yorkshire club from Real Sociedad in September 2020 and has gone on to make 59 appearances for the Whites, scoring four goals.

However, now feels like a natural time for the player to move on, and a mid-season transfer would certainly come as a welcome financial boost for Leeds.
