TalkSPORT host Adrian Durham has slammed reports claiming that Sheffield United want to make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Sun reported on Saturday that the Premier League side were plotting a £20million move for the Yorkshire Pirlo to aid their push for European football.

According to the report, Wolves and Burnley are also in the race for the 24-year-old, who would want to stay at Elland Road should Leeds earn promotion.

Durham slammed the reports claiming that Phillips is a Premier League player waiting to happen, and is worth much more than the suggested £20million fee.

“Sheffield United are very interested apparently in making a move for Kalvin Phillips in the summer,” he said on talkSPORT Drive.

“£20million, that’s what the gossip says. I cannot believe Leeds would let him go for £20million – he’s worth way more than that to Leeds United so I’d be surprised if Sheffield United got him for that.

“No surprise that they’re interested in him because he’s a Premier League player waiting to happen.”

There is no questioning whether or not Phillips would stay in West Yorkshire if we were promoted, and Marcelo Bielsa would build his side around the 24-year-old.

Phillips has been superb before and after his recent suspension. He has averaged 2.8 tackles per game according to WhoScored, the most in the entire squad – as well as completing 5.3 accurate long balls, something which is vital to Leeds’ possession-based game.

The midfielder is the final piece of the jigsaw at Elland Road, and it could well fall apart without him, so it’s no surprise that Gareth Southgate is eyeing him up for an international call-up.

Either way, promotion puts Phillips leaving out of the question, so let’s cross our fingers that this time next season the 24-year-old has played a pivotal role in cementing our spot in the Premier League.
