‘Wow’ – Alan Brazil reacts to Liverpool v Leeds blockbuster, Troy Deeney predicts Anfield result

Leeds United fans finally found out who their first Premier League opponents will be in their first top-flight match in over 16 years.

The 20/21 Premier League fixtures were officially announced at 9am on Thursday morning and Leeds play Liverpool away in what is possibly the toughest game for the Whites all season.

Leeds also play Man City in the first five fixtures, with the first game at Elland Road in GW2 against newly-promoted Fulham.

After Fulham, Leeds travel to Sheffield United before hosting Man City.

Then it’s home to Wolves and away at Aston Villa. You can see the full fixture list for Leeds here.

Reacting to the fixtures on the Breakfast show on talkSPORT (Thursday, 9am), Alan Brazil said, ‘Here’s a cracker! Liverpool against Leeds United. Wow, that’s a beauty, you’d love to see a full house for that. That’s the only negative for me there. What a game that is, Liverpool v Leeds United.”

Pundit Jamie O’Hara agreed saying, “What a fixture for Leeds United, the only killer is the fans. That would have been electric, that’s a bit of a kick in the teeth.”

However, Troy Deeney said that Leeds would be glad there were no fans.

“I fancy Liverpool to win it,” Deeney said, “You’re glad there are no fans from a Leeds’ perspective.”

MOT Verdict

Welcome to the Premier League! There could definitely have been an easier start to the season but what a game to welcome us back.

Deeney is totally wrong from our perspective. We would absolutely love to have a full house at Anfield and we’d fancy the Leeds supporters to match the Liverpool fans for noise.

The atmosphere would have been absolutely electric and imagine if Leeds manage to hold their own or spring a surprise.

The one thing the manager and players won’t want to happen is to suffer a heavy defeat. That’s what happened to Norwich last season after they won the Championship.

But, even if that does happen, it will only get easier for Leeds from that point.
