Wolves early team news v Leeds United: Conor Coady unlikely to start amid transfer speculation
Conor Coady is not expected to be in Wolves’ starting line-up when they play against Leeds United this weekend, according to The Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on Friday (5 August, page 76) that ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener at Elland Road (6 August), 29-year-old Coady is being eyed up by Everton.
It is understood that Wolves are ready to listen to offers for their club captain, who is “unlikely” to be in Bruno Lage’s starting line-up versus Leeds due to Nathan Collins’ arrival in the West Midlands.
Leeds have numerous players ruled out of this game but Wolves are not without their issues for the Premier League opener.
According to BBC Sport, Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore and Nelson Semedo are all set to miss the game, meaning that Matija Sarkic, Toti and Hwang Hee-Chan could start for the Midlands club.
Coady’s absence would be a huge boost for Leeds though.
He’s their captain and easily their best defender.
Leeds are going to be without Daniel James and Luis Sinsiterra in their attack so they need every boost they can get to make it easier to score against Wolves.
But Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo were in great form against Cagliari last week and we’ll back them, plus Brenden Aaronson and Jack Harrison, to wreak some havoc on Wolves’ Coady-less back-line.
If Leeds had space for another centre-back we’d love to see them try and sign the former Liverpool defender, who’s been capped 10 times by England.
But going into the new season, we have Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Diego Llorente and Robin Koch so we’re well-equipped in that area of the squad.
We do, however, need a new left-back.
In other Leeds United news, this Whites star has taken it personally that Jesse Marsch has dropped him from his first-team plans.
