Willy Gnonto ‘fabulous’ as Leeds United star wows Gary Rowett in defeat v Millwall
Willy Gnonto left Gary Rowett in awe with a “fabulous” piece of skill in the clash between Leeds United and Millwall.
The Whites fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat The Den on Wednesday (6 November), a result that leaves them third and two points back of the automatic promotion places in the Championship.
However, Gnonto left Sky Sports pundit Rowett blown away in the commentary box with an excellent run to breeze past Ryan Leonard moments before he was fouled in the first half.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Wednesday (6 November, 20:07) he said: “That was fabulous play from Gnonto wasn’t it?
“Ryan Leonard is a very, very good one-against-one defender but it looked like Gnonto just flicked it through his legs just before this.”
What happened to Leeds United star Willy Gnonto at Elland Road?
He may not be particularly prolific in front of goal, but Gnonto is excellent to watch when he is running at full speed with the ball between his feet.
The Italy international posed a constant threat down the left flank at The Den on Wednesday night with his tricky skill and energy ensuring the home side were repeatedly penned back on the edge of their penalty area.

Of course, fans will want to see more of the winger in the final third. While he had a few impressive moments when he was isolated against his opposing full-back, he didn’t really manage to fashion any real scoring chances for himself or his teammates.
If the 21-year-old genuinely wants to be Farke’s Crysencio Summerville replacement this term, he will have to start testing opposition keepers more often. He has the ability to be one of the Championship’s best players, now he needs to take that bull by the horns and kick on.
