Wilfried Gnonto lambasted by team-mate after what he did in Leeds United win v Watford
Graham Smyth spotted Jayden Bogle turning on Leeds United teammate Wilfried Gnonto in the second half of the 2-1 win over Watford on Tuesday.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist posted on X (22 October) after 51 minutes at Elland Road, having seen Bogle “lambast” Gnonto following a marauding run forward by Hornets left-back Yasser Larouci.
United’s 2-0 half-time lead had already been reduced by Kwadwo Baah inside the opening minute of the second period, and Bogle was left to deal with Larouci’s eventual shot after being beaten initially.
Leeds United survive bad-tempered second half in Watford win
Bogle and Gnonto’s control over the right-hand side of the field seemed to wane as the match went on, with Gnonto having played a key role in United’s second goal against the Hornets.
With the Whites already 1-0 up, the Italian’s cross into the area was spilled by Daniel Bachmann into Brenden Aaronson’s path, and the USA international finished accordingly to double the lead.
Cruising after just seven minutes of the first half, the Peacocks’ mood was quite different at that point of the second half, with Bogle blasting Gnonto for not being switched on as Larouci went on the charge.
Gnonto being hooked for Daniel James to come on after 72 minutes suggests that Farke’s feelings were similar to Bogle’s as United lost control, and the Welshman’s display off the bench was immense.
The Italian will remain one of the first names on the team sheet going forward regardless of this second-half showing, but the competition will only increase if he continues to lack consistency.
