What Daniel Farke said after Fulham loss should worry every last Leeds United fan

Leeds United were on track to pick up another valuable point until a late own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson handed Fulham a 1-0 win on Saturday.

It was deja vu for the Leeds supporters who had travelled down to Craven Cottage, as their side struggled to see their side create clear-cut chances from open play for the fourth consecutive Premier League match.

Karl Darlow was the standout performer on the day, with the rest of the backline and midfield looking solid before the unfortunate incident in stoppage time occurred.

That is not where the problem lies for Leeds; it is their forward line, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin among those whose performances were criticised.

Daniel Farke admits his side lack ‘individual quality’

Those looking on from the outside may be curious as to why there was so much uproar at Elland Road following Leeds’ lack of transfer activity towards the backend of the window to strengthen the attack.

It was clear to every United supporter that Leeds did not have the quality in the forward areas to stay up, and the choice made by the 49ers to not strengthen this area will ultimately come back to bite them.

The fact that Brenden Aaronson was deployed on the right wing against Fulham showcases the lack of quality Leeds have in their ranks, whilst also showcasing Farke’s inability to select the correct team.

Speaking after the game, Farke made a chilling admission regarding his squad that is undoubtedly a sly dig at the recruitment team and the 49ers.

“We are fortunate to have a good group and top characters,” he told reporters.

“We know we don’t have the best individual quality, so we have to be fitter, tighter, we need to show fighting spirit and be a bit more effective because we don’t have the individual quality like some other clubs.

“We have the players we have, so no complaints. We have to have this approach during the whole season.

“Need to keep the games tight. Need to be rock solid at the back.”

Daniel Farke waves white flag already

The entire fanbase knows Farke was sold short in the market, and to be truthful, most managers would struggle to keep this Leeds side in the top flight.

This does not, however, give Farke the license to wave the white flag and surrender already, whilst claiming his side is not good enough.

All Farke can do is give the Whites the best chance possible to stay up, to focus on the things he has in his control.

And that is where he still falls short.

Starting Aaronson out of position out wide instead of Willy Gnonto is the type of poor decision we see way too often from the German manager, hence the constant criticism and speculation regarding his future.

Ultimately, he contributed to the mess he now finds himself in when he let Largie Ramazani leave the club on loan whilst welcoming back Jack Harrison with open arms.

Farke has directly contributed to the growing stack of cards that is against him, and for that reason, sympathy will always be limited towards him.
