View: Leeds fans right to be fuming after officials announced v Burnley

Some Leeds United fans are up in arms after the Premier League announced the officials for the Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday – and you can see why.

It’s a house of horrors for Leeds as the Premier League announced that Graham Scott will be the referee, Anthony Taylor is the fourth official and Darren England is on VAR.

Let’s work through these.

Graham Scott was in charge of the match against Sheffield United when he didn’t send George Baldock off after he nearly decapitated Tyler Roberts.

Incredibly, he didn’t even get a card for this challenge.

Leeds fans will know Anthony Taylor well.

He was in charge of the game against Sheffield Wednesday back in 2016 when he put in such a bad performance, Leeds manager Steve Evans said he was only fit to referee the Under-9s league.

He allowed a Leeds corner while Fernando Forestieri was being subbed off, subsequently awarding and then disallowing the goal we scored.

Taylor also sent off Gaetano Berardi in the play-off semi-final against Derby, was in charge when we lost 6-2 to Man United this season and has awarded penalties against Leeds in two of the five games he’s reffed for us this season.

As for Darren England, he was so bad in the game against Millwall in 2020 that Andrea Radrizzani called for improvements to officials after the game.

That all bodes well, then.

As one Leeds fan put it, we just need Jeremy Simpson in there for a full house.

Thankfully, we think Leeds will have far too much for Burnley and the officials, and we’re still expecting the three points that will cement our status as a top-half Premier League side.
