Victor Orta argues with Thomas Tuchel in first-half of Leeds v Chelsea
Victor Orta was involved in an angry row with Thomas Tuchel in the first half of Leeds United v Chelsea after Patrick Bamford went down injured.
That is according to reporter Matt Critchley who recounted events to his 21,000 + followers on his personal Twitter profile.
According to Critchley, Tuchel told Orta to “leave my players alone” after the Whites director of football complained about not kicking the ball out quick enough after Bamford went down with an injury on the half-hour mark.
Orta was certainly making himself known during the opening proceedings as evidenced by a tweet from former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford who shared what he heard during the game.
Beckford said on his personal Twitter profile: “You’ve got to love the one man band in the crowd (Director of football, Victor Orta) screaming out ‘COME ON LEEDS, COME ON LEEDS, COME ON LEEDS! Every time we get in the Chelsea half.”
Without fans at the stadiums small things are always likely to get picked up and scrutinised moe intensely but we love the passion Orta displays for our club.
He mirrors Marcelo Bielsa on the sidelines in that he kicks every ball and is so caught up in the game that he sometimes loses control and sight of his emotions.
But we don’t mind that – this is the sort of passion that was sorely lacking from our club in the years preceding his arrival.
It was also unsporting from Chelsea – Bamford was lying prone in our own box, the decent thing to do was to put it out of play as soon as possible.
Chelsea took their time to do so and that is not good enough – what if the injury was serious?
It was clearly not a trick to waste time or stop incessant pressure – Bamford was hurt and needed treatment. He wouldn’t have stayed down there otherwise and he looked frustrated when play was finally stopped.
Bamford was forced out with this injury and it could be a big blow to our chances of finishing in the 10 if it proves to be a serious one.
