‘Very professional’ – BBC pundit drools over Leeds duo who ‘dominated’ v Wolves
Noel Whelan was left drooling over the performance of Leeds United duo Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk against Wolves on Monday.
Despite Raul Jimenez getting the fortunate winner for the away side, the BBC pundit thought the Mexican was dominated by the Whites pairing.
Struijk was a late introduction into the side for Marcelo Bielsa, after Liam Cooper pulled out due to a recurring groin problem.
Whelan was particularly impressed with Koch, claiming there was nothing he didn’t like about his performance.
“I thought they dominated Jimenez throughout,” he said on BBC West Yorkshire Sport.
“There was nothing about his game tonight that I did not like. He looked a lot better on the ball, he’s got that cross-field pass in his locker as well – which you need to when you’re playing against five at the back.
“It’s disappointing because I would have liked to have seen him back there with Liam Cooper, but I’ve got to say Struijk coming in late, very professional, great game.”
Looking at Jimenez’s stats from the game, it was clear that he wasn’t as influential as he usually is in games.
The 29-year-old had his lowest expected goal return of the season according to WyScout, had one shot on target and only managed four touches in our area.
Koch and Struijk dominated him in the air too, and despite an unfortunate deflection, it would have been the perfect performance from Leeds’ defence.
With Cooper a major doubt for the Villa game on Friday, the defensive duo could be set for a massive test once again.
