'Unbelievable' – Jim White & Danny Murphy deliver Leeds promotion verdict after weekend results
Jim White has said the Championship is “so tight it’s unbelievable” but both he and talkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy believe that Leeds United will go on and secure promotion.
Leeds lost 2-0 to Cardiff on Sunday and dropped to second in the table on goal difference after West Brom got a point from a 0-0 draw with Birmingham.
Fulham lost to Brentford and are still seven points back. Brentford are one point behind Fulham.
Talking on the White & Sawyer Show (talkSPORT, Monday, 11am) White said, “The Championship is so tight it’s unbelievable… I think the Championship is going to be more exciting than the Premier League for the rest of the season.”
Turning to Murphy, White said, “Who do you think will go up with Leeds and West Brom?”
“Wait a minute,” Murphy said.
“Do you not think Leeds and West Brom are going up automatically?” White asked.
“I do,” replied Murphy. “I don’t want it to be, I’d rather it be Leeds and Fulham. Leeds, the supporters are incredible. I think Leeds and West Brom will get over the line. If Brentford play like they did against Fulham they’ve got a great chance in the play-offs.”
Murphy went on to talk about the massive games coming up this weekend when the top four play each other.
He said that if Leeds and West Brom beat Fulham and Brentford respectively, they will be home and hosed.
“It’s a massive game for Leeds,” Murphy said. “I think if Leeds and West Brom win their games against Fulham and Brentford then I don’t think anyone can stop them.”
Leeds have been getting Elland Road ready for the blockbuster game on Saturday.
They’ve been testing crowd noises over the past few days, which sounds strange during the day when you know no one’s there.
Hopefully, the familiar chants and songs will spur Leeds on – it was definitely weird to hear the players’ voices rattling around the empty stadium in Wales on Sunday.
We think a win will be enough to knock Fulham out of the race – and then we’d be looking to West Brom, although we’d take a draw or a Baggies win in that one.
