‘Turned Bamford into Bergkamp’ – Sky Sports pundit predicts score in Leeds v Leicester clash
Sky Sports pundit Lewis Jones has predicted a Leeds United win at Elland Road on Monday against Leicester.
The two teams are set for the Monday Night Football treatment on Sky Sports and it’s fifth against seventh with both sides looking to continue their fast start to the season.
Writing on Sky Sports Jones predicted the score would end 2-1 to a Leeds side he described as “relentless”.
He claimed the Europa trip to Athens for Leicester was far from the ideal preparation for Brendan Rodgers side.
“Leeds top the Premier League for average distance covered this season with 114km per game – some 10km more than the likes of Fulham or Wolves,” Jones said.
“Any heavy legs in the Leicester camp will be found out at Elland Road.
“Brendan Rodgers will have a plan to stop them, probably in the same defensive shape that saw them rip through Manchester City.
“However, Marcelo Bielsa, whose powers have turned Patrick Bamford into Dennis Bergkamp, is taken to keep Leeds rolling at their relentless level for a few weeks more yet.”
Vardy the danger
Like in the Wolves game, we’re expecting a different sort of test from Brendan Rodgers and Leicester.
He’s a good tactician and we expect him to follow Nuno’s lead and sit back at Elland Road in a bid to soak up the pressure.
In Jamie Vardy, Leicester have the perfect striker to hit on the counter.
However, Leeds have Liam Cooper back after a groin strain and we expect him to play alongside Robin Koch.
They’re more than capable of shutting Vardy out and in Bamford and Rodrigo, Leeds have a potent attacking duo capable of hurting anyone.
A win would be huge for Leeds and we think they can do it – confidence is absolutely sky high at the moment.
