talkSPORT broadcaster Jim White has said that Brentford manager Thomas Frank made a “total mockery” of the drinks break after producing a tactics board in the second half of the game on Tuesday night.

Brentford were losing 1-0 to Charlton with just one quarter of the game left. They went on to win 2-1 and heap more pressure on Leeds and West Brom at the top of the Championship.

White added that he was “amazed” that officials didn’t intervene and stop him from conducting his ad-hoc coaching session.

Talking on the White & Sawyer Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 10am) White said, “He produced his board in the drinks break during the second half. Should he have been doing that? Should he have been using a tactics board during a drinks break?

“It’s a drinks break. But then he pitches up with a tactics board and says, ‘We’re losing, we’ve got to turn this around’.

“I would suggest that Thomas Frank made a total mockery of what the water break is supposed to be. I think that’s very difficult to argue against. It was a joke.

“Where do we go next? I’m amazed an official didn’t say, ‘What are you doing?’ when he produced that board. I think he’s overstepped the mark.”

Frank has caused real controversy with his actions during the second drinks break and we’d imagine that the authorities will move to clarify the rules.

Either you can have a full-on coaching session during the drinks break or you can’t.

Surely it would be better for drinks to be brought on by an EFL official and keep the managers in their technical areas?

There were plenty of Leeds fans who were all over this topic on Twitter last night.

The majority were questioning whether it should have been allowed, although there were some fans who said that Leeds United just need to focus on their own games.

That’s very true, with an opportunity to restore the gap back to Brentford with a win on Thursday.

At least White is showing some consistency here. He slammed Leeds over Spygate last season, despite no rule being broken.

No specific rule has been broken here but the sight of the tactics board was a bit unedifying. Saying that, we’ll find it funny if we go on to get promoted.
