Top prediction site unveils exciting end-of-season Championship table after latest Leeds win

Leeds United have now got a greater than 99% chance of getting promoted – literally as good as it can get without it being mathematically confirmed.

That’s the great news from top prediction site FiveThirtyEight after it updated its end-of-season table following Leeds’ 1-0 win against Swansea on Sunday.

Only 1% of that >99% comes from Leeds going up through the play-offs, while Leeds are now an 89% shot to win the Championship.

West Brom are still favourites to finish second but the gap is only two points according to FiveThirtyEight’s predictive model and that could all change when the Baggies play Fulham on Tuesday.

Leeds fans can watch that huge clash in relative comfort now. The really big game is Brentford’s clash with Preston on Wednesday. If they fail to win their eighth game in a row then a Leeds win on Thursday will deliver that all-important 100%.

Brentford are overwhelming favourites to go up through the play-offs with a 70% chance and that would see Leeds and Pontus Jansson heading up to the Premier League.

That would be the very best result for Leeds fans who still hold a torch for their former centre-back.

Brentford deserve top-flight status as well. They’ve been utterly fantastic in the latter stages of the Championship and you have to wonder where they’d be if they hadn’t had such a poor start to the season.

Incredibly, they were 15th at the start of October.
