Tony Dorigo stunned by Georginio Rutter after Leeds United draw v Sheffield Wednesday

Tony Dorigo was left stunned by one Georginio Rutter moment for Leeds United against Sheffield Wednesday, after a “superb” pass to set up a chance in the 0-0 draw.

Rutter played a ball through to Crysencio Summerville to set up an opportunity for Leeds to open the scoring in their Championship clash, but his effort was saved to keep the score level.

The Leeds striker had struggled to get a hold of the game in the first half, but his creativity began to show as time dragged on as he was able to link up well with his teammates as they looked to take the lead.

The former Leeds player was commentating on the fixture for LUTV [02 September, 16:14] and was wowed by Rutter’s creativity: “Great play from Rutter, the pass to Summerville is superb,” he said.

A key player in a big season

Rutter is going to be relied upon up front for Leeds alongside new signing Joel Piroe as the club looks to provide plenty of threat going forward to give themselves the best chance of achieving promotion at the first time of asking.

The Frenchman arrived at Elland Road for a huge fee in January and is one of the few star players the club have managed to keep in Yorkshire after a busy summer transfer window with plenty of departing players, with release clauses inserted in several contracts ultimately proving to be the story of their summer.

Rutter was expected to be the main striker for Leeds this season, as concerns continue to grow over Patrick Bamford’s shocking injury record, but the arrival of Piroe from Swansea will allow him to take more of a creative role as he looks to sit deeper than the main goalscorer.

If he can pull off the types of passes he has in the game against Wednesday, he will rack up plenty of assists in the coming season and help the club to outscore their opponents as they continue their push for promotion.
