Tim Sherwood and Karen Carney slam Leeds United goalkeeper Meslier v Manchester City

Tim Sherwood and Karen Carney were critical of Leeds United ace Illan Meslier for letting Kevin de Bruyne score on Wednesday night.

The Whites suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat against the defending champions and the Belgian’s goal was the pick of the bunch.

His long-range effort was undoubtedly a goal of the season contender, but Sherwood and Carney believe that Meslier should have done more to stop it.

Sherwood, who’s a Sky Sports pundit, said on Premier League Productions’ post-match show, “Look at the goalkeeper there. I don’t know why he dives. It’s embarrassing.”

To which Carney responds, “I agree, he doesn’t need to dive.”

Ridiculous

It’s so easy and lazy to criticise a goalkeeper who’s just conceded seven goals and that’s exactly what they did in the studio.

The speed de Bruyne hit it at was astronomical and there was no chance any keeper in the world, let alone Meslier was getting to that.

Looking at the replay, one can poke plenty of faults with the player’s positioning, but his reaction time was close to zero for it.

Things seem easier when they’re in slow motion, but we cannot sit here criticising Meslier for that.

As a team, the performance was disappointing and all players were underwhelming, to say the least.

Hopefully, we see a response in the game against Arsenal as they desperately need things to change for the better.
