‘This is unreal’, ‘Not welcome at Leeds’ – These Whites fans react to BBC 5 Live post
In amongst all the transfer news in the past 24 hours, one post from BBC 5 Live Sport caught the eyes of a lot of Leeds United fans.
After Man United were hammered by Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, one Reds fan phoned up BBC606 to say that he was switching to supporting Leeds until there were wholesale changes at Old Trafford.
To the disbelief of Robbie Savage and Chris Sutton, the United fan said, “It’s just an utter embarrassment today. I’m looking for a new club to support after today’s shambolic performance. Until they change the board and have a clear out they’re not worth supporting.”
He was asked what team he would be supporting and he said that he lived in Leeds and would start supporting the Whites instead – “They’ve got one of the best managers in the business, their players are hungry for it.”
Sutton said, “You’re going from Man United to Leeds United? That must be a first.”
Savage said that he was lost for words.
We’re not entirely surprised. If you watched Leeds play Man City on Saturday and then United against Tottenham on Sunday, only one team is going to bring you pleasure this season.
The body language of the highly-paid United stars was horrible to watch and they gave nothing.
However, while some Leeds fans found it all funny, there were more who said that the United fan wouldn’t be welcome at Leeds.
A few even thought it must be set-up, given the rivalry between Leeds and Man United.
However, he sounds genuine from the clip and Leeds are certainly picking up neutral fans left, right and centre already this season. But United fans? That’s surely a step too far…
