These Leeds fans react to Jordan Stevens display v Barnsley: ‘Deserves a chance in the 1st team’

Jordan Stevens got himself back among the goals for the Leeds United Under23s at Thorp Arch on Monday and fans were thrilled for him.

Most people thought he was hard done to after being banned from all footballing activity for six weeks after placing a number of bets on football matches, some on Leeds games.

The amounts were modest but the FA decided that they needed to come down hard on the youngster.

During the ban, Stevens couldn’t play, train or work around the club but he served his time and looks to be back on top form.

He put in a really good shift in a 2-0 win over Barnsley on Tuesday afternoon, netting the second goal after Ryan Edmondson had given his side an early lead.

The goal came about from the Barnsley side switching off. Edmondson was coming back from an offside position, which seemed to put the Barnsley side off. Stevens wasn’t offside and raced through to slot home through the keeper’s legs.

Stevens almost got a second as well, crashing a shot off the post from the edge of the box.

It was a fine performance – worthy of an 8 in our pitchside ratings – and Leeds fans were thrilled for him.

There were some other fans who thought it would be funny to make jokes about his ban for gambling offences, but this one Leeds supporters summed up what he thought of that with the following tweet.

Stevens was young and made a mistake. He was punished incredibly harshly and is now back doing what he does best at Leeds.

The best thing Leeds fans can do is never mention it again.
