BT Sport pundit Leon Osman was blown away by Raphinha after the Leeds United winger scored in the 2-1 defeat to Everton at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
Raphinha, 24, netted his fourth goal of the Premier League season when he essentially passed the ball into Robin Olsen’s net just after half-time.
Leeds were unfortunately already two goals down when Raphinha scored and Marcelo Bielsa’s men couldn’t manage to get another to rescue a point.
But ex-Everton midfielder Osman was impressed by what he saw from Raphinha when he slotted the ball into the Toffees’ net.
“What a terrific finish this is from Raphinha,” said Osman on BT Sport 3 on Wednesday night.
“It comes relatively out of nothing. It’s just a ball that Leeds United want more.
“Harrison battles, Bamford’s sharpest to the bounce of the ball and just knocks it into a space.
“You think Raphinha has to take a touch but he doesn’t, he just passes it into the far corner. I think it goes through the legs of the Everton defender which probably makes it a little more difficult for Olsen.
“It’s a terrific finish nonetheless.”
Raphinha – player of the season?
Leeds have had a real mixed bag of results since winning promotion to the Premier League and as a result, a lot of Bielsa’s players have had inconsistent performances.
However, Raphinha seems to be someone who impresses every week when he takes to the pitch.
The former Rennes winger has now scored four goals and supplied four assists in 16 league appearances for Leeds this term, with two goals and two assists coming in his last three outings.
Even when things aren’t going too well for Leeds, like when they lost 6-2 to Manchester United, the Brazilian ace is still able to stand out and in that match, he managed to set up the two goals the Whites scored.
There are, of course, ther candidates for the player of the season award at Elland Road with Patrick Bamford, Jack Harrison, Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips among the others to stand out.
But at the moment, no one is standing out more than Raphinha, who is going from strength to strength under Bielsa.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want a playmaker in the summer.
