Telegraph details next steps for PL as key date brought forward – outcome major boost for Leeds

The Premier League has finished four hours of talks over Project Restart and the good news – from a Leeds United perspective – is that the commitment is still to finish the season.

According to the Telegraph‘s Jason Burt, the remaining 92 games would be played at neutral venues with players getting tested twice a week.

Some clubs are against the neutral venues but Burt claims it’s something police and the Premier League are pushing for.

Fellow Telegraph journalist John Percy reported that the Premier League had noted the legal action threatened by Lyon after the Ligue 1 season was ended early.

They are keen to avoid anything similar happening over here.

Burt claims the next Premier League meeting was set for May 15 but that’s been brought forward a week and is just one day after the government decides whether lockdown conditions can be relaxed in the UK.

It means that we should get a much more definitive answer about the season re-starting next Friday.

The Premier League meeting was key for Leeds for two reasons.

Firstly, the EFL is likely to take the lead shown by the Premier League. They’re pushing for a June 8 re-start and the Championship could follow a week later.

However, even if you take the Championship out of the equation, if the Premier League is finished and three teams are relegated, it’s almost certain that Leeds will be promoted.

That would happen either on the pitch with the final nine games of the season being played out, or by points-per-game or something similar.

The latest word from the EFL was that if they couldn’t finish the season, Leeds and West Brom would be promoted automatically, with the final spot going down to a three-game play-off.
