talkSPORT duo blown away by what ‘ridiculous’ Archie Gray did for Leeds United in clash v Norwich

Leeds United gem Archie Gray has blown both Jim Proudfoot and Lucy Ward away with a “ridiculous” piece of defending in the Whites’ clash with Norwich City.

Daniel Farke’s side booked their place in the playoff final with a comprehensive 4-0 win at Elland Road on Thursday (16 May) thanks to goals from Ilia Gruev, Joel Piroe, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville.

While Leeds’ attacking players stole the show, talkSPORT commentators Ward and Proudfoot were left stunned by a piece of skill from Gray midway through the second half which saw him tackle Jonathon Rowe.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (16 May, 20:35) Proudfoot said: “Long ball played by Gunn and Rowe did really well to come off of the left flank and win it, only for Archie Gray, Beckenbauer-like to chase the ball down, turn him and lay it off to Gnonto.

“Is he only really 17?”

Ward replied: “It’s ridiculous, the only thing I worry about from a welfare point of view is the amount of minutes he’s played.”

Will Archie Gray leave Leeds United and Elland Road in the summer transfer window?

The scariest thing about Gray now is the fact Leeds United supporters have come to expect these moments from the teenager, such has been his form throughout the Championship this season.

No matter where the 18-year-old has played whether it is in the middle of the park or at right-back, he has never looked phased and Thursday night was another example of that as he took the biggest game of the season in his stride.

On the ball he was calm, venturing forward and threading dangerous balls into the penalty area and out of possession he defended with a commanding style that saw him compared to one of the game’s best-ever centre-backs.

Gray’s talent is quite quickly becoming one of the worst-kept secrets in the Championship and while Leeds will hope that he helps guide them into the Premier League, there will still be a fear that he will leave this summer.
