Supercomputer predicts result of Liverpool vs Leeds United in Premier League

Leeds United travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Thursday with the hopes of claiming their biggest result of the season so far.

Leeds and Liverpool drew 3-3 in a thrilling game on 6 December, and both sides have gone on a fantastic run of form since.

Daniel Farke‘s side are unbeaten in five matches, and Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday has them sitting seven points above the relegation zone as they approach the midway point of the season.

Leeds famously beat Liverpool 2-1 on their last trip to Anfield in October 2022, and their chances of repeating that outcome are very slim.

Liverpool backed as heavy favourites to beat Leeds

Arne Slot’s side come into the match having won their last four matches in all competitions since they played Leeds at Elland Road.

On Saturday, they beat 20th-placed Wolves to move into the top four on 32 points.

According to Opta‘s supercomputer, Leeds’ unbeaten run will come to an end in Merseyside.

The Whites never won consecutive visits to Anfield in their league history, and it doesn’t bode well for them that Liverpool haven’t lost their first game of the year when it’s been at home on any of the last nine occasions.

Leeds have won just one of their last six league games on New Year’s Day, beating Birmingham City 3-0 in 2024.

This is their first New Year’s Day game in the Premier League since 2003, a 2-0 home win against Birmingham.

Although these stats don’t make for promising reading, there are certainly signs that the Peacocks could claim an unlikely victory.

Leeds have a fantastic record in January over recent years

Farke’s side head into 2026 as one of the most confident teams in the Premier League.

They produced a fantastic display against a Sunderland side that hasn’t lost at home all season, and were unlucky not to come away with all three points.

Leeds haven’t lost any of their last 10 league games played in January since a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in 2023 under Jesse Marsch.

The only side in the top four tiers with a longer current unbeaten run in January is Arsenal (11 games).

Leeds may be without the injured Joe Rodon, but they have sufficient cover in defence to adapt to the match on Thursday.

It will be a huge task for the Whites to win at Anfield, although if there is one thing that can be learnt in recent weeks, it’s that Farke’s men should never be counted out.
