Supercomputer makes new Leeds United relegation prediction after twists at Everton, Nottingham Forest

Leeds United are now highly likely to be relegated from the Premier League after a day of drama on Saturday, according to a supercomputer.

FiveThirtyEight’s algorithm has re-evaluated the numbers after Everton’s draw at Wolves and Nottingham Forest’s “shock” win over Arsenal to say that Leeds now have a 74 per cent chance of being relegated.

Forest are mathematically safe after the win over Arsenal also secured Manchester City the Premier League title while Everton’s point at Wolves means they are two points clear of 18th-placed Leeds with one game to play.

Everton’s relegation chances stand at 39 per cent, according to FiveThirtyEight, who also predict Leicester (86 per cent) to go down with Leeds and already-relegated Southampton.

Going down

Leeds have the advantage of an extra game to play but they’re hardly easy games, compared to what Everton have left.

Everton’s final game is at home against Bournemouth, who’ve been safe for weeks. While they probably won’t take the foot off the gas, it’s hard to see them going away at Goodison Park and winning.

Leeds have to play West Ham away and then Tottenham at home.

If we beat the Hammers on Sunday at the London Stadium then that would move us out of the bottom three and mean survival is in our hands on the final day.

Spurs’ form has been wretched in 2023 and it’s probably a more winnable game on paper than it was when the fixture list was confirmed last summer.

Leicester have to play Newcastle and West Ham, which aren’t the worst of fixtures either but you could argue they are the hardest of the lot and the Foxes are the lowest-placed side out of three.

It wouldn’t be a miracle if Sam Allardyce keeps Leeds in the Premier League.

But it would be a massive shock considering how this season has gone.
