‘Super’ – Danny Murphy wowed by MOTD footage of what Leeds star did vs Wolves

Leeds United beat Wolves 3-1 on Saturday to pick up their first away win of the season in a convincing manner.

The Whites shook off an early goal from the hosts to score three first-half goals in reply. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach and Noah Okafor all scored their first league goals of the season.

Wolves battled hard in the second half, but Leeds could have scored more in the second half and were comfortable victors.

The win puts Leeds on seven points after five games, in what can now be described as an admirable start to the season.

Danny Murphy wowed by Leeds midfielder Anton Stach’s sublime freekick

Stach gave Leeds the lead from a direct free kick after 39 minutes, in what was arguably the turning point of the game.

Leeds were awarded a free kick around 20 yards from goal after Calvert-Lewin was bundled over in a central position.

Wolves placed a six-man wall to protect the right side of their goal, but the German midfielder chose to bend the ball around it and hit the corner of the goalkeeper’s side.

It was Leeds’ first goal from a direct free-kick in the Premier League since May 2021, when Kalvin Phillips netted one against West Bromwich Albion.

Reviewing the footage on Match of the Day, pundit Danny Murphy was full of praise for the German midfielder.

He said: “It’s a super strike. That really shouldn’t be going in there although it’s a technically really good strike.”

Anton Stach was the driving force for Leeds once again

All of the Leeds players deserve credit for their performance against Wolves. It really was a five-star performance from Daniel Farke’s side once they recovered from conceding an early goal.

However, it was Stach who:

Data suggests that Stach is one of the best in the Premier League for creating goalscoring chances, and he’ll be delighted to bag one of his own on Saturday.

It seems whenever Stach is in the midfield, Leeds can always expect to have their fair share of chances on goal. Unlike previous games, they were clinical in taking their chances at Molineux.

The German is quickly establishing himself as the first-name on Daniel Farke’s teamsheet.
