Stuart Dallas can’t believe what he saw in Leeds win v Coventry – ‘Terrible’

Stuart Dallas could not believe the standard of defending in the leadup to Jayden Bogle’s goal for Leeds United in their 2-0 win against Coventry City on Wednesday.

Bogle was allowed to tap the ball into the back of the net after goalkeeper Olive Dovin spilt a loose touch from the full-back after he had easily danced his way into the opposition box in the Whites’ championship clash with Coventry on 5 February.

Dallas tipped his hat to Bogle for his effort, but described the Sky Blues’ defending as “terrible” and insisted that Dovin has no excuses for fumbling the ball.

“It’s terrible defending, but it just opens up”, Dallas said on LUTV (5 February, 8:45 pm).

“You see [Liam] Kitching steps in to try and go on Brenden [Aaronson], which leaves a gap and Jayden just continues and at that point there, he thinks it’s gone.

“To be fair to Jayden, he still switches on and it just fell to him and he’s finished it, but a great run from him, but the goalkeeper should have had it in his hands.

“Well, he did and he dropped it, but we don’t complain. It has made it a really comfortable half.”

Leeds United beat Frank Lampard’s Coventry City comfortably

Leeds signed Bogle from promotion rivals Sheffield United for £5million ahead of the season [John Percy, 20 July].

The Englishman was essentially tasked with replacing Luke Ayling, who established himself as a key player for the Elland Road outfit over eight years.

Although the 24-year-old made a slow start to his time in West Yorkshire, he has quickly become an important player in Daniel Farke’s side.

Bogle now has four goals and two assists in 29 Championship appearances for Leeds this season.

There is no doubt that the defender will continue to play a key role if the Whites are to earn promotion to the Premier League this season.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that this was Leeds’ first game since the winter transfer window closes on Monday, 3 February.

Many fans and pundits have been talking about their decision not to sign a single player when promotion rivals Burnley and Sheffield United strengthened their ranks significantly.

However, Farke and Co showed that they are more than capable of earning promotion as Championship winners with the squad they have with their comfortable win against Frank Lampard’s side.

In other Leeds United news, this pundit has been scratching his head over what the Whites did after their 7-0 win against Cardiff City.
