Stuart Dallas and Luis Sinisterra 'definitely out' of Leeds United Premier League clash v Manchester City - Phil Hay

Stuart Dallas and Luis Sinisterra are “definitely out” of Leeds United’s Premier League return against Manchester City, according to Phil Hay.

The Whites were without several first-team players for their final mid-season winter friendly due to injury and illness, with Jesse Marsch hopeful that the majority would be available for the game with City.

But writing in The Athletic’s Q&A before the game (28 December, 10:40), journalist Hay revealed that at least two would definitely not be involved, while also sharing that Patrick Bamford is likely to miss out too.

“This would be an incredibly difficult fixture at full strength but Leeds United have several selection issues and Jesse Marsch will not have a full complement of players available to him,” he wrote.

“Tyler Adams is suspended and Luis Sinisterra and Stuart Dallas are definitely out as they recover from injury.

“Marsch was hopeful that everyone else would be back in training ahead of the City clash but the game might still come too soon for the likes of Patrick Bamford.”

Blow

It was largely expected by most fans that Dallas would be out of the game as he continues his recovery from a fractured femur, but there was some delayed hope that Sinisterra could be a surprise inclusion.

That has now been thrown out of the window, but it’s a big blow that Bamford is likely to miss the game as he continues to try and recover from injury and illness of his own.

HIs fitness has been a real concern over the last 18 months, having been so influential in Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa, but Marsch surely knows by now that he cannot rely on him anymore.

The positive news is that the likes of Rodrigo, Crysencio Summerville, Liam Cooper and Illan Meslier should be fit to return and take their place in the starting line up.

City will be an incredibly difficult test, especially after six weeks off, but Leeds have been at their best against teams who attack them so hopefully they can spring a surprise once again.
