Steve McManaman hails Stuart Dallas in first half v Tottenham

Steve McManaman was blown away by Stuart Dallas in the first half of Leeds United against Tottenham at Elland Road on Sunday.

Dallas opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he smashed the ball into the back of the net after a rebound from Hugo Lloris.

Sergio Reguilon almost scored an own goal, forcing a big save from Lloris to stop it going in.

However, Lloris’ save only found Dallas, who impressed McManaman for his crossing ability later in the half.

“What a ball,” said McManaman on BT Sport 1 after Dallas’ cross led to an awkward clearance by Serge Aurier.

“Anything into the box is causing chaos.

“Dallas this time, the goalscoring whipping it in – I’m surprised it wasn’t [Jack] Harrison.

“Great run here, nobody goes with him, Eric Dier has to come across, flicks it into that area again but Aurier doesn’t know whether he’s coming to going.

“I don’t know how he was trying to clear that.”

Super Dallas at it again

Dallas is on the scoresheet yet again, becoming the first Northern Ireland player to score eight Premier League goals in a season since Chris Brunt did it for West Brom in 2008/09.

He’s making a stronger and stronger claim to win the Leeds player of the season award each week he plays but there wasn’t much about his goal against Spurs other than good luck.

Harrison’s cross into the penalty area caused all the issues, forcing Lloris into making a big save to stop Reguilon netting an own goal.

Spurs pulled a goal back through Heung-min Son but Patrick Bamford’s goal just before the break puts us in a good position to win this game or at least avoid defeat.

Imagine a newly-promoted team avoiding defeat against all of the European Super League teams at Elland Road?

No wonder they wanted the ESL.
