Steve Bruce demands VAR intervention after what’s seen in Leeds vs Manchester United
Steve Bruce wanted VAR to review Leeds United’s throw-ins against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Elland Road hosted Ruben Amorim’s team on 4 December, with Brenden Aaronson giving the Whites the lead at around the hour mark.
The West Yorkshire outfit conceded soon after as Mathues Cunha beat Lucas Perri from a tight angle after being played through on goal, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
Daniel Farke has turned things around in the Premier League, with the German manager using his team’s height to good use with more long throws, but the former Newcastle United boss seemed to find them unlawful.
Gabriel Gudmundsson accused of foul throw-ins in Leeds vs Manchester United
Bruce wanted VAR to see when Gabriel Gudmundsson released the ball while taking his long throw-ins.
The former Man United defender accused the left-back of running onto the pitch with the ball at Elland Road before releasing it.
In recent weeks, the Whites have found success with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s presence in the opposition box and have since tried to use it more often.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 4 January, Bruce said, “VAR needs to look at the throw-in. Absolutely. It’s not right. He runs onto the pitch with it, doesn’t he? So when does he release it? That’s what we’re going to have a look at. It certainly is against the rules, I believe.”
Man United were seen as slight favourites against Leeds, but the West Yorkshire outfit showed their quality against their bitter rivals.
Farke has now led the Whites on a seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, alleviating fears of relegation.
Daniel Farke still has one transfer priority after Man United draw
Farke wants attacking additions at Leeds in January, but it may be more sensible to look at strengthening other areas of the pitch.
Given Pascal Struijk’s injury history over recent months and Joe Rodon’s absence, a new centre-back should be targeted.

Sebastiaan Bornauw has come into the starting lineup in recent matches, but he was arguably one of the weak links against Man United.
Fans in LS11 will be anticipating some transfer business in the winter window, and it will be interesting to see which position the West Yorkshire outfit will bolster.
