Star Tottenham forward ruled out of clash v Leeds with injury
Jose Mourinho has confirmed Tottenham will be without Gareth Bale for their clash against Leeds United in North London on Saturday.
Bale, 31, returned to Spurs on loan from Real Madrid in the summer and has since scored three goals in 11 appearances for Mourinho’s side.
However, the Wales international won’t be involved against Leeds this weekend with Mourinho announcing the forward has a calf injury.
As quoted by Sky Sports, the Tottenham boss said: “No, I don’t expect Gareth to be fit [to play Fulham on Wednesday]. I wouldn’t say it’s a serious injury, but I would say a few weeks.”
Most expensive loan flop in PL history?
Bale re-joined Spurs in September but is yet to hit the heights that he was at during his last spell in North London.
The Welshman has managed just four Premier League appearances and is yet again sidelined by injury.
It begs the question, why did Spurs sign such an unreliable and expensive player?
According to football.london, Spurs are covering 40 per cent of Bale’s wages while he’s on loan with them. That doesn’t sound a lot – until you see that his contract at Real Madrid is worth a staggering £600,000-a-week.
It means Spurs are paying £240,000-a-week for a player who hasn’t shone for a few seasons now and is also regularly injured.
Bale is still one of the superstars of football, especially in the UK.
But Tottenham will still be a tough team to beat without the former Southampton man, especially when they have Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in such prolific form this season.
