Kalvin Phillips has had a special message written on his boots for Leeds v Man United clash
Kalvin Phillips is going to be sending out a powerful message when he takes to the Old Trafford pitch for Leeds United on Sunday.
He has designed some special boots with Shaka Hislop for the Show Racism the Red Card campaign and he hopes it will help educate people about a subject very close to his heart.
Talking on the BBC on Friday Philips said, “I got them [boots] edited by Show Racism the Red Card, the charity that I’ve seen a lot of and I’ve seen others wearing the boots.
“It’s a decision I wanted to make because of what’s been going on recently.
“I’m a black man from a black family, some of the stuff that’s been going on has been sad and I just wanted to put my opinion out there and show people who maybe don’t know who I am to educate them and to swerve them towards the campaign that will be written on the side of my boots.
“It’s just to educate as many people as possible.”
Leeds through and through
Kalvin Phillips is Leeds through and through and this will send out a powerful message from one of the most popular players in the city.
For people who say politics and sport shouldn’t mix, let’s get this clear – this isn’t politics.
When people boo players taking the knee they’re booing the players, not some imaginary political party.
We’re behind Phillips 100% with this and love what he said ahead of the game.
It’s important to stand with players like Phillips. He doesn’t say things like this lightly. These are experiences that have shaped his world.
Phillips stood by Leeds when he had a lucrative offer to move to the Premier League on the table.
He stayed and helped Leeds get back into the Premier League.
We know that 100% of the Leeds supporters will be behind him and back his message on Sunday.
