Sky Sports pundit wowed by what he saw Rothwell do in Leeds v Millwall

Joe Rothwell wowed a Sky Sports pundit after what he did as Leeds United faced Millwall at Elland Road on Wednesday.

Farke made one change against Millwall on 12 March, replacing Ilia Gruev with Rothwell in the starting lineup as the Whites looked to get the three points at home after the disappointment against Portsmouth.

Manor Solomon helped the visitors to a quick start, forcing an own goal from Jake Cooper in the third minute of the fixture.

It was Rothewell who caught the eyes of one Sky Sports pundit with his quality on the ball during the fixture.

Rothwell bright for Leeds v Millwall during first half

Jobi McAnuff was impressed by Rothwell’s performance in the first half against Alex Neil’s team.

The former Jamaica international wanted the Englisman to start in the middle of the park due to his ability on the ball.

McAnuff believes the 30-year-old had a bright start to the game as the Whites found themselves ahead 1-0 at the break.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (12 March, 17:54), the 43-year-old said: “Rothwell, he’s been so good. Again, I wanted him to start from a Leeds perspective because he gives them that bit of quality in the midfield, particularly when they have got loads of the ball. And he has certainly started this game really brightly.”

Farke needs win v Millwall

The Elland Road faithful saw their hopes of winning automatic promotion take a hit after losing to Portsmouth at Fratton Park on 9 March.

While Farke’s team were favourites for Premier League promotion a few weeks back, it remains to be seen how their recent form will affect that.

Anything less than automatic promotion will lead the 49ers Enterprises to review the German manager’s position at the West Yorkshire outfit.

While the 48-year-old head coach hasn’t been helped by injuries this season, he has most of the squad available right now.

There can be no excuses for the Peacocks to drop more points against Millwall, and they need to ensure victory at home in the second half.

The Whites have one of the best squads in the Championship, but recent displays have shown they will undoubtedly require quality reinforcements if and when they get back into the English top flight.

Farke will have another challenging fixture against QPR on 15 March before the international break starts.

Anything less than perfection from here on out could be detrimental to the Peacocks.
