Sky Sports pundit stunned by ‘perfect’ Rodrigo moment in first half of Leeds United clash v West Ham United

Alan Smith was left stunned live at Rodrigo’s goal in the first half of the Premier League clash between Leeds United and West Ham United on Sunday (20 May).

The Spaniard latched onto a long throw-in from Weston McKennie to fire a volley past Lukasz Fabianski to open the scoring at the London Stadium.

The goal represented Rodrigo’s 13th of the current Premier League season.

“He just strolls onto this ball 12 yards out,” Smith said live on Sky Sports Main Event (17m20s). “The connection is perfect isn’t it? Easy to slash at that, take it too early and sky it over the crossbar.

“Just when composure was needed, Rodrigo finds it.”

Massive clash

Leeds undoubtedly need at least a point from this massive clash at the London Stadium, especially given results elsewhere this weekend.

The Whites could only watch on as Nottingham Forest stunned Arsenal 1-0 on Saturday (20 May) to secure their Premier League safety.

There were hopes of Everton losing out to Wolves, but Yerry Mina’s 99th-minute equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw at Molineux will have hit all associated with Leeds hard.

Of course, they should only be really worrying about their own results, but it’s hard not to look elsewhere for a favour or two at this point.

Put simply, Leeds have not been good enough this season, with many fans already conceding that their club will be playing Championship football next time out.

But there will definitely be supporters who have not given up hope just yet, particularly given how tight it is at the bottom end of the Premier League table.

Rodrigo has definitely given those supporters that much-needed hope with his very well-taken goal in East London.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites youngster is reportedly going to be watched through the under-20 World Cup by Real Madrid.
