Sky Sports pundit: Leeds United robbed of clear penalty v Wolves

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk believes that Leeds United should have been given a penalty in the first half against Wolves in their 2-1 win on Saturday.

Right-back Rasmus Kristensen and Wolves keeper Jose Sa contested a long ball and the latter did not get anything of the ball.

Instead, he connected with the Denmark international who was knocked cold for a few seconds with his teammates imploring for a penalty.

After VAR did not deem it a clear and obvious error, Sweetman-Kirk, a Sky Sports pundit, said on the Premier League world feed, “The more we see of it, it doesn’t look good. Sa does not get any of the ball.

“I think that’s a really bad call.”

Keepers deserve extra protection in the game, but this was borderline violent conduct.

Sa completely took Kristensen out and was nowhere close to getting any of the ball.

Despite having a group of referees looking at it, we’re baffled by how they decided to come to this conclusion.

The least they could’ve done was to ask the on-field referee to go on and take a look at his monitor and then let him reconsider his call.

In the thick of things, these calls are often missed out and we’re surprised how they did not even think it to be necessary.

Games against Wolves are crucial for Leeds if they are to ensure that they do not get drawn into another relegation battle this season.

Thankfully, this did not affect the outcome of the game as the Whites ended deserved winners.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
