Sky Sports pundit claims Leeds have 'huge' problem in the team today v Forest

Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills thinks that Leeds United have a huge problem against Forest with Kalvin Phillips out.

The holding midfielder – such a vital cog in the Bielsa system – is serving the final game of a three-match suspension, picked up for a bad tackle in the game against QPR.

Talking to Football Insider Mills said, “[Bielsa] is obviously going to have to switch that around without Kalvin Phillips who is vital. As much as Dallas did alright the other day, they have huge holes at times.

“There were times [against Wigan] where White, Ayling and Cooper were left at the back and there was a huge gap, 30, 40 yards in the middle of the pitch, a huge gap that Kalvin Phillips usually sits there and patrols.

“Without his discipline in that area, Leeds look vulnerable, especially on the counter-attack.”

Mateusz Klich has done a solid job in Phillips’ absence, especially in the game against Millwall.

However, Bielsa does have another option, with Gaetano Berardi back from injury. He played 45 minutes in the Under-23s game on Monday and was missing from their 2-1 defeat to Derby last night.

That could suggest a return to the starting line-up today, which could mean Ben White moving up into the holding midfield position.

MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson thinks that’s the way Bielsa should go today.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Away from home, I think he will put Gaetano Berardi in the centre of defence alongside Liam Cooper and put Ben White in the holding midfield role.

“That’s something he’s done before and I can see him doing that again to shore things up away from home.

“Having those three players on the pitch will also give extra protection at set-pieces.”

Leeds won the first game Kalvin Phillips missed but had to come back from two down against Millwall.

However, the game against Wigan last Saturday, a shock 1-0 defeat at Elland Road, would surely have been different had Phillips been playing.

The good news is that Phillips will be back for the Brentford game on Tuesday and should go straight back into the starting XI.

Phillips has kept his match fitness up and played 45 minutes for the Under-23s last night.
