Sky Sports pundit claims Leeds duo had ‘rude awakening’ in 4-3 defeat v Liverpool

David Prutton has claimed that Leeds United duo Robin Koch and Rodrigo both had a “rude awakening” in their Premier League debuts against Liverpool.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that the summer signings will only grow from their experiences in the 4-3 defeat at Anfield.

It wasn’t the best of starts for either, with both new arrivals conceding penalties either side of the half-time whistle in Merseyside.

Prutton admitted that collectively, Leeds were superb on the opening day and the defeat is something the squad will only learn from.

“Koch and Rodrigo might not have had the best debuts with both conceding penalties but these things happen,” he wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“It’s a rude awakening to the Premier League but Leeds did themselves a lot of favours.

“It obviously means more if you come away with something as in a point or three and it was a baptism of fire for both Rodrigo and Koch but they will only grow from it you would hope.”

Despite their mistakes in the game, both new arrivals still also left Anfield with some positives from their display.
It was a nightmare start for Koch, who not only conceded the first penalty but also lost Virgil van Dijk far too easily for the second goal.
After that, the German international settled and coped with the threat of Roberto Firmino relatively easily – making 10 interceptions [WyScout].
Rodrigo also played a massive part in the third goal, springing into life to set the ball for Mateusz Klich before his one-two with Helder Costa.
The new Leeds duo couldn’t have wished for a harder opener in the Premier League, but both showed glimpses of promise after fragile starts, and they will only get better from here.
