'Take that' – Sky Sports pundit can't disguise contempt for one player in Leeds v Fulham clash

It’s been a tough 2020 but the single scariest moment was the first quarter of the game against Man City. Rodrigo will be the saviour this season.

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic should be on the end of a retrospective ban after deliberately elbowing Leeds United centre-back Ben White in the face.

He did that with just 90 seconds on the clock in the game at Elland Road this afternoon.

Replays showed the intent and Sky pundit Steve McClaren couldn't disguise his contempt for his former player.

He was asked on the Sky Sports coverage of the game (Saturday, 3pm), "Why would that go through the mind of Mitrovic?"

"Because that's how he is," McClaren replied. "He was like that as a kid when we signed him for Newcastle. So aggressive, he bullies you, and that's what he did.

"The first five games he played for us I think he got sent off twice. He has to calm down, he has to control his emotions and play the game.

"It drove us crazy. We played with 10 men for two games because of it. He hasn't learned, he's still doing it. He's got to keep his head."

Luke Ayling left a bit on Mitrovic later on in the game with an elbow while jumping for the ball, although it didn't look intentional. McClaren took great delight in it.

"I thought it was a great challenge. Take that Mitrovic," McClaren said.

We'll be hugely surprised if the EFL don't act on this and give Mitrovic a solid ban.

On top of the defeat today that's a huge double blow for Fulham who are surely out of the automatic promotion race now.

That's no more than Mitrovic deserves for a disgraceful challenge at a time when it's been hard enough to get the players back on the pitch.

It was so early on in the game, White had done nothing and there was no animosity between them.

It was purely an act of aggression to bully White into submission and we've got no sympathy for him if he does go on to be banned.

It was interesting to see McClaren's take on it, as a former manager of Mitrovic's. Mitrovic also lost the trust of Rafa Benitez at Newcastle and was shipped out to Fulham where he's done well in the Championship.

We doubt their fans are going to be very happy with him after the incoming ban.
