Sky Sports pundit blasts Diego Llorente live on-air straight after Leeds United loss v Brentford

Sky Sports pundit Sue Smith slammed Diego Llorente after the Leeds United defender suffered yet another shocker in the 5-2 defeat at Brentford on Saturday.

Jesse Marsch’s men were completely dismantled in West London with their strong start to the Premier League season now seeming to be a thing of the distant past.

Llorente, 29, was the target of Smith’s criticism after the game on live TV with the former Leeds Women player blasting the Spaniard’s lack of urgency and quality when in possession.

“I thought Llorente was really poor,” said Smith on Sky Sports News on Saturday (3 September, 05:42pm).

“A couple of times, he was getting caught out of position, dawdling on the ball, getting caught on the ball.

“Him and [Robin] Koch at times, they just didn’t perform so they need to do better.”

Bench him

Llorente’s been terrible this season.

He was bad last term but he seems to have gotten worse over the summer.

Thankfully, Liam Cooper was on the bench against Brentford and by the time we play next, you’d imaging that the club captain is fit to play.

Jesse Marsch has no choice but to demote Llorente to the bench.

According to stats by WhoScored, the ex-Real Sociedad defender was dribbled past twice against Brentford, committed an error that led to a goal and was dispossessed once. SofaScore adds that he lost possession and unforgivable 12 times.

Llorente was directly responsible for Everton’s goal in the week and without him playing against Brentford, we may have been able to get a point despite losing by three goals.

The 29-year-old isn’t good enough.

He’s had plenty of chances but has proven himself to be a liability on the field while his injury issues have hurt us in the past.

If an offer comes in for him in January or next summer, it should be seriously considered.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites tried a late summer deal to sign this Leicester player.
