Sky pundit impressed with ‘absolutely sensational’ Leeds record, singles out ‘fantastic’ signing
Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent has claimed that Leeds United have a sensational defensive record in the Championship this season.
Bent revealed that the Whites have kept clean sheets in 14 of their 19 wins in the second-tier – something that can be critical in their promotion push.
The former Tottenham striker singled out the influence of Brighton loanee Ben White, claiming he has been a massive signing for Marcelo Bielsa.
Bent claimed that if Leeds continue to keep clean sheets, they will earn promotion to the Premier League.
“Yeah, of course, I mean they’ve had 19 wins this season with 14 clean sheets which is absolutely sensational,” he said during EFL on Quest.
“Ben White at the back has been fantastic, made a huge difference. I think they’re talking at top teams looking at him, Liverpool interested in him as well and he’s been a massive signing for Leeds.
“For me, if they can keep the clean-sheets, defensively be very, very strong, I think this could be their season.”
Leeds have had to be at the top of their game defensively due to their efficiency struggles in the final third at Elland Road.
White has definitely been a massive part of that, making the influential Pontus Jansson a distant memory after less than a year of him leaving.
The 22-year-old is brilliant at reading the game, putting him in positions where he doesn’t have to tackle unnecessarily. White has completed 2.4 interceptions per game according to WhoScored – the most in the entire squad this season.
He may have struggled in midfield during the victory at Middlesbrough on Wednesday, but he should definitely be back to his best if he returns to the defence against Hull City.
