Sean Longstaff update emerges ahead of Leeds v Manchester United in Sweden

Leeds have now announced the signing of Sean Longstaff after weeks of negotiations.

Longstaff joined from his boyhood club Newcastle after falling down the pecking order, and will add plenty of experience to the squad.

Leeds have now made five signings this summer, but still have a lot of work to do before the Premier League season begins.

Pre-season is set to get underway imminently as Leeds face Manchester United in a friendly in Stockholm on Saturday, and there has now been an update over Longstaff.

Longstaff with Leeds squad in Stockholm

Leeds will face bitter rivals Man United in their first pre-season match of the summer as Daniel Farke takes a closer look at his squad.

Sebastiaan Bornauw, Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson could all play a part for the first time since their arrivals this summer.

Fans will also be keen to see Longstaff involved, with his transfer announced on Friday, but it remains to be seen whether the game comes too early for his involvement.

However, the 27-year-old has already joined up with his new teammates in Sweden and is with the squad set to face United, as per journalist Isaac Johnson.

It is unknown whether he will play, though.

Leeds need more signings as pre-season begins

Having five signings in for the start of pre-season is positive, as it will allow the new players to adjust to Farke’s system and their new teammates before the Premier League campaign begins.

However, Farke is entering pre-season without his two biggest priorities addressed, as a striker and a goalkeeper are yet to arrive at Elland Road.

These two signings could prove to be the difference between survival and relegation, and getting them through the door and match-ready will be vital as Leeds face a tough start to the season.

The match against Man United will be about fitness, as well as testing Leeds against Premier League-level opposition once again.

Ruben Amorim’s side ended last season in woeful form while Leeds strolled to the Championship title, and keeping up this momentum could give the Whites a boost going into the new campaign.
