‘Sad’ – Klich sends message to Leeds fans ‘they’re not going to like’ ahead of clash v Barnsley

Mateusz Klich has said “it’s sad” that fans won’t be able to celebrate in the stadium with Leeds United when they get promoted but added it’s important they support the club from home.

Klich sent the message to fans – “they’re not going to like it” – after being asked in a BBC interview about the prospect of getting promoted on Thursday at Elland Road without the fans being present.

That could happen if Brentford drop any points in the game against Preston that kicks off at 5pm on Wednesday.

“Obviously all of us want to celebrate with the fans,” Klich said. “But I have a message for the fans, it’s sad and they’re not going to like it.

“But please stay home. The only way we can beat the virus is to stay home and support your club from home. As soon as we beat it the fans can come to the stadiums again.

“I’m very positive. In Poland, there is 25% of stadium capacity being able to watch games. So it’s very doable.”

Everyone is going to be glued to the Brentford game tonight. Even Klich said that he would be watching and added that he thought it would be a very good game.

We’ve heard of some fans making plans to be at Elland Road on Thursday and we hope that they listen to Klich.

We know as well as anyone else how tragic it is that fans can’t be there on Thursday, but there are still issues around social distancing.

It looks like fans will be allowed back into stadiums in reduced numbers next season and while that will mean some season ticket holders missing out on Leeds’ first games back in the Premier League, some fans are better than no fans.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Elland Road tomorrow night and the hope is that the majority of fans will stay away and party at home.

We’ll get to celebrate in the stadium before too long.
