Roy Keane blasts ‘sloppy’ Max Wober for error in Leeds United defeat v Manchester United live on Sky Sports
Roy Keane has blasted Leeds defender Max Wober for a “sloppy” mistake he made during the team’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday (12 February).
The Whites turned in a strong performance but ultimately fell to defeat thanks to late goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, leaving them just one point above the relegation zone.
But during the first half they nearly fell behind when January signing Wober played the ball to Bruno Fernandes, only for Illan Meslier to make a big save, and Keane told Sky Sports (12 February, 14:57) that it was “silly” for him to make an error like that.

“Leeds, again, sloppy from him [Wober] to give it away here so late in the first half,” he said.
“Fernandes, you’d want him in this position, him or Rashford, but lets give credit to the goalkeeper.
“It’s a brilliant save. But Leeds again taking silly chances, they’re watching the game.
“Fernandes going through with all his quality, would you expect better?
“But you’ve got to give the keeper credit, he’s stood long, got his foot to it and that’s his job. It’s a good save.”
Sloppy
While it didn’t lead directly to a goal in this game and didn’t contribute towards what ended up being a defeat, it’s moments like these that can be the difference.

In the position that we’re in, we simply cannot afford to allow for mistakes such as these to creep into our game or that could be the difference between relegation or survival.
Wober has enjoyed a largely good start to his Leeds career thus far, making the left centre-back role his own and looking assured and comfortable with the physicality of the Premier League.
Meslier’s save was instinctive and excellent, and showed why he is such a top talent in the world of goalkeepers, but we can’t rely on him to be saving us all the time.
We must be wary, especially against the top level opposition that we don’t allow them a head start in games, and that means focus must be greatly improved and performance must also step up.
