Leeds United Under-23s kept up their charge at the top of the Premier League 2 Division 2 table with a win against Wolves this afternoon at the Aggborough Stadium.
The headline news for Leeds was the return to action of Rodrigo and the Wolves youngsters might have felt it was a tad unfair to come up against the Spain international.
He didn’t take it easy on them, scoring two quick goals to give Leeds the platform to go on and win the game easily.
His first came from a well-worked free-kick after seven minutes. He peeled off to the edge of the box and hit a smart first-time left-footed shot that gave the keeper no chance.
He got his second from the penalty spot after 15 minutes, with a solid spot-kick to the keeper’s left He went the right way but had no chance of keeping it out.
Rodrigo should have got a hat-trick (and possibly did) on the stroke of half-time when his header was cleared off the line. It actually looked like it had gone over the line, but with no technology in play, we had to trust the officials.
Marcelo Bielsa was in attendance this afternoon and he will have been very pleased with what he saw from the attacker ahead of the Premier League clash against West Ham on Monday.
Other notables from the first 45 minutes, when Leeds were strongly on top, were Charlie Cresswell and Charlie Allen. Gaetano Berardi came through another outing.
Rodrigo went off at half-time with his job done but we were treated to another couple of returns as Ian Poveda played for the first time since his return from injury, and Sam Greenwood returned to action.
Poveda may not have had a haircut since his injury either.

Wolves came back into the game in the second half but never looked like getting anything from the game.
Cody Drameh looked ultra-sharp again and must be knocking on the door of the first-team squad.
Ian Poveda was lively and caused lots of problems for Wolves, producing a beautiful nutmeg on one player, without actually delivering any end product.
The game was won in the first-half, though, and Leeds Under-23s are 13 points clear at the top of the table.
Now, all eyes will be on the team sheet for Monday.
Rodrigo could well feature in the starting XI after his display today and we think his return will make a real difference to a side that’s suffered a definite slump of form without him.
