Rob Palmer: Illan Meslier save v West Ham was tremendous
Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier was praised by Rob Palmer for his save off Tomas Soucek’s header from a corner.
The Frenchman was one of the rays of hope for the Whites side and kept them in the game for the longest time.
Leeds ended up losing 2-1, but the scoreline would have been a lot worse without Meslier in goal.
In the 62nd minute, he pulled off a blinder to deny Soucek from scoring West Ham’s first.
Speaking about this moment on Premier League Productions’ world feed, Palmer, who’s a Sky Sports commentator, said, “Tremendous save. Brilliant from Meslier there.”
Can’t keep relying on him
It’s always nice to have a reliable goalkeeper who can bail his side out of trouble, but Leeds are having to rely on Meslier time and again to do that.
The defence has been all over the place in the last few games, leaving him completely exposed at the back.
While there are a number of injuries, that does not mean that the replacements do not come in and perform their duties to the fullest.
It’s been annoying watching this side defend this campaign and without Meslier the results could have been a lot worse.
Marcelo Bielsa wouldn’t be happy with the way his side played here, but has to be willing to take drastic steps to get things back on track for his side.
It remains to be seen how Leeds bounce back from this rather disappointing display.
