Rob Gurney furious at what he witnessed in Coventry v Leeds – ‘Terrible’
Rob Gurney was fuming with the performance of Coventry City as they fell to a comfortable Leeds United-inflicted defeat on Wednesday night.
Having taken an early lead through Joel Piroe, Leeds never seemed troubled in the game and were certainly deserving of all three points.
However, despite Leeds’ quality, Coventry were not at the races, with their own performance slammed by Gurney when commentating live on BBC Radio CWR Sport (5 February, 8:16pm).
Gurney said: “This a terrible performance in the context of what’s gone on before.
“Yes, Leeds are stacked with star names and spent loads of dough, but at least compete, and Coventry are not competing.”
Leeds United won’t be concerned about Coventry failures
If Leeds play well, they tend to win football games and for results to be often written off because of a “terrible” opposition performance takes far too much way from what is largely their own doing.
The Whites never allowed the hosts to get a foothold in the game for the large part and they need to receive the necessary recognition for that.
Ultimately, that is why Daniel Farke’s side occupies the top spot in the Championship and if they can maintain that kind of performance, they can expect a call from the Premier League by the end of the campaign.

However, consistency has at times been Leeds’ biggest downfall and off the back of two positive results, they need to maintain those levels with some huge games coming up.
A trio of fixtures against Sunderland, Sheffield United and West Brom are rapidly approaching and if they can stay at this level, it certainly bodes well.
