Rio Ferdinand lacks professionalism with post-match behaviour after Leeds loss v Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand reminded us once more why he’s not everyone’s favourite former Leeds United player with his punditry performance on BT Sport 1 on Saturday.

Manchester United won 5-1 against Leeds at Old Trafford with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick.

After the match, BT Sport talked about Man United and their chances of winning the Premier League title for pretty much the entirety of their post-match coverage.

Towards the end of their broadcast, Marcelo Bielsa was interviewed – before Man United was spoken about again – and then Luke Ayling was.

Finally, after Ayling’s interview, the pundits spoke a bit about Leeds but during their reaction to the Yorkshire club’s display, Fernandes gatecrashed the interview and Ferdinand didn’t even want to talk about Leeds anymore.

BT Sport host Jake Humphrey started talking about Leeds when you can see Ferdinand spot Fernandes walking towards him.

Ferdinand distracts Humphrey from discussing Leeds’ next game against Everton, fist bumps Fernandes and said: “Perfect.”

Humphrey then continued with his question, asking about the next match against Everton and how Elland Road will be rocking with a full house.

Even though Fernandes has gone, Ferdinand then turned away from Humphrey and said fellow pundit to Joe Cole: “I can’t believe that Bruno Fernandes has banged a hat-trick and he’s continued talking about Leeds when he’s come over and said hello. Wow.”

It was embarrassing behaviour from Ferdinand and it just proves the theory of every fan who supports a team outside of the so-called ‘big six’.

All they want to do is talk about them. They don’t care about us, they don’t care about Aston Villa, they don’t care about Norwich and they don’t care about Brentford.

All they care about are those six teams who tried to ruin club football in Europe by trying to form the European Super League earlier this year.

Yet they continue to pander towards them and seeing Ferdinand and Fernandes fist-bumping on live television, when they were talking about Leeds, was so cringeworthy.

We get that these pundits have teams they support.

South London-born Ferdinand, who came through the academy of West Ham has every right to support Man United if he wants to support them.

But when you’re on television as a pundit, you need to be impartial and put your bias to one side.

Ferdinand acted like a cheerleader for Man United on Saturday and seemed to have forgotten that he once played for Leeds.

The fact he didn’t even want to talk about the Whites is ridiculous.
