‘I don’t care what anyone says’ – Ally McCoist delivers surprise Leeds verdict after 6-2 loss
talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has mounted a surprise defence of Leeds United after their shock 6-2 defeat on Sunday.
While other pundits like Chris Sutton were queuing up to dismantle the Leeds system, McCoist said he loves watching them play and that they are “absolutely different class”.
Talking on the Breakfast show (talkSPORT, Monday, 7am) McCoist said, “I don’t care what anyone says, I love watching Leeds.
“They’re absolutely different class. They continue to entertain the neutral. Did I see a stat that said there were 41 shots on goal yesterday? That’s ridiculous.
“They’re still vulnerable at the back and Patrick Bamford said they were well below par against United.
“But 6-2 down, with four or five mins left, they were pressing ridiculously high up the park to try and get the ball back. That’s coached into you.
“Listen, defensively we can criticise them. But I was really looking forward to seeing them this season and they haven’t disappointed me. It’s magic entertainment.
“I can guarantee after their own team, Leeds will be the ones fans want to watch.”
Magic McCoist
We love McCoist. He’s never reactive and always sticks to what he thinks is right.
Leeds have been magic this season and they will continue to entertain their own fans and neutral fans across the country.
Leeds fans have to take the rough with the smooth and yesterday’s game changes nothing.
Leeds were never going to be good enough to win the league and playing defensively is a risky game when you come up as a promoted team.
It makes it very hard to change the way you play, even against teams you could get three points from.
Bielsa knows that he can get enough points from this team playing this way.
There will be some heavy defeat along the way and we would have preferred one not to come against Man United.
However, it’s the only way to play with this manager and these players and Bielsa can move onto the next stage of the development of the team in the summer.
This season was all about staying in the league, assessing and improving the squad where needed in the summer transfer window.
Nothing’s changed so we might as well enjoy the ride. 15 goals in the last two games mean that there’s not much time to do anything else.
