Richard Keys reacts instantly to Patrick Bamford missed penalty in Leeds United 2-2 draw v Newcastle United

Richard Keys believes that Patrick Bamford’s missed penalty in Leeds United’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle could be the difference between safety and relegation.

The Whites were 1-0 up when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Junior Firpo, only for Bamford to miss it and Newcastle to score their own penalty three minutes later to equalise.

Despite battling back from falling behind to earn a 2-2 draw late on, Keys felt that the penalty summed up the season for Leeds so far and couldn’t help but tweet his reaction.

“As someone once famously said ‘football. Bloody hell,’ he wrote on his personal Twitter account (13 May).

“That was Leeds’ season – right there.”

Crazy

Having seen the incident there was no doubt it was a penalty, so what have Leeds done earlier in the season that the karma Gods decided Bamford should miss this one?

Leeds were battling hard to stay in the game after Newcastle started well but we took the lead and then should’ve made it 2-0 from the spot.

Obviously there are question marks surrounding why Bamford took the spot kick when Rodrigo was on the pitch and is our top scorer, but at this point it doesn’t matter anymore.

The character we showed to keep fighting even after missing the penalty then being pegged back to 1-1 and even 2-1 down and still earn a point is commendable and should show the fans and players that we’re not dead yet.

It’s not in our hands but fixtures are in our favour this weekend and if the teams around us are beaten then we can look at it as a point gained heading into the final two fixtures.

In other Leeds news, BT Sport’s commentary team were raging at one star after an “extremely clumsy” moment against Newcastle.
